Oktoberfest in Lantana
I know it's a bit early, but I've heard from some of the MASH and FLAB guys that they'll be there in force on 10/23 (a Saturday), so anyone game for some homebrew club comraderie on that day?
Brewing Techniques Fizzles

Homebrewers and professional brewers across the country have lost a good friend and great teacher. Brewing Techniques magazine has ceased publica
tion, citing dwindling readership, a reluctant advertising climate, bad debt, etc. Publisher Stephen Mallery is still hopeful that a financial White Knight
will ride in to save the day, but isn't holding his breath. Brewing Techniques was a fine publication with lots of great information and our craft and
hobby benefited greatly from it. There's still one unsold copy at Home Brewer's Outlet for one of you who happens to feel nostalgic.
Oar House Reopened Under New Ownership
The Oar House Restaurant in Lake Worth Florida has once again reopened its doors after a summer hiatus. Best known for it's outstanding seafood dinners and enormous variety of
imported and domestic beer, business will resume on October 4, 1999 under the new ownership of Lanny and Ellen Lingerfelt.
Much has been done to improve our pro
gram to enhance your dining and drinking pleasure. Recently, The Palm Beach Draughtsmen's had the opportunity to review the current beer list from the Oar House. This list comprises
of over 300 varieties of beer. The club was asked to designate the top 100 most popular beers on this list. Your selections and input is much appreciated in helping us to be informed as to what beer connoisseurs look for in selection.
The Oar House Restaurant is located at 3108 South Congress Avenue, Lake Worth, Florida (Just north of 10th Avenue on the east side). Phone 561/965-9724. Hours of operation are daily from 11:30am til 10:00pm. Closed on Sunday. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Beer Consumption Up Worldwide
World beer production in 1998 increased 1.6% from a year earlier to about 133 million kiloliters, up for the 14th consecutive year.
The biggest five producing countries are the United States (up .05%), China (up 5.3%), Germany (down 2.7%), Brazil (down 0.3%) and Japan (up 0.5%). Russia, eighth in output, showed the biggest growth rate of 24.6% thanks to increases in consumption
among women and young people.
Increases in areas such as China, Taiwan and Japan reflect growth of U.S. domestic brands such as Budweiser (perhaps the world's largest contract brewer) and international brands like Heineken that are brewed under contract license by beer manufacturers in those countries.
