The Palm Beach Draughtsmen's Eighth Annual Hurricane Blowoff Home Brew Competition makes landfall in West Palm Beach on March 28-29, 2003! We invite all brewers, judges, and stewards to participate in this American Homebrewers Association and Beer Judging Certification Program sanctioned home brewed beer and mead competition.
Join us at the home of Dale and Debbie Howell, 13026 Compton Road, Loxahatchee, FL 33470 (561) 790-1856 when the judging begins at 6:30 p.m. sharp, on Friday, March 28. After the judging, home brewers will participate in a question-and-answer session with a prominent, special-guest brewer as well as a raffle of brewing supplies.
On Saturday judging begins at 8:30 a.m. BJCP Judges and non-certified judges are encouraged to participate. If you don't want to judge, we invite you to serve as a steward. If you would like to judge or steward, please fill out the attached judge registration form and submit it with your entry form or send it to Home Brewers Outlet, 1618 Latham Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33409 (561) 686-4019. The awards ceremony will be held after the competition on Saturday at the newly opened Brewzzi brewpub in CityPlace, downtown West Palm Beach. Enjoy free beer compliments of the Palm Beach Draughtsmen as you sample Brewzzi's excellent menu. See if you medal at this awards ceremony and see if you win beer glassware, clothing and paraphernalia at the banquet raffle. Hop in a free trolley after the banquet to enjoy the evening at CityPlace and the adjacent Clematis Street nightlife district.

Eligibility The Hurricane Blowoff Competition is open to all home brewers, everywhere. All entries must be home brewed. Beers brewed at commercial establishments are not eligible.

How to Enter Each entry will consist of (3) three, 10 to 14 ounces in volume, brown or green colored glass bottles only and be free of raised lettering, or ink name-brand lettering, and paper labels. Raised "NO DEPOSIT", or manufacturing codes are acceptable. Bottle caps must be blacked out to eliminate any identifying markings or graphics. Grolsch-type or swing top bottles are not eligible. Bottles not meeting these requirements will be disqualified. You may submit as many entries as you like, but no more than two for each sub-category will be allowed.
Entries will be accepted starting on March 8 and must be received by March 22, 2003. The entry fees are as follows: entries - $6 each. Entries received after March 22 may be accepted at the competition organizer's discretion, at an entry fee of $12 each. Please make checks payable to Palm Beach Draughtsmen, Inc. (do not send cash). A completed entry form must accompany every entry. Staple your check to your entry form and write on the check the number of entries, and the name of the entrant, if different, from the name on the check. Attach a completed bottle ID form to each bottle with a rubber band only. Glued or taped ID forms will not be accepted.

Categories All 2003 AHA beer, mead and cider categories (26 total) and associated sub-categories will be accepted in this competition. Please refer to the BJCP style guidelines for category and sub-category descriptions. Each entrant is responsible for placing his or her entries in the proper category. Be sure to place the correct category number and sub-category letter on your entry and bottle ID forms. All entries will be judged according to your classifications listed on your forms. The Palm Beach Draughtsmen reserve the right to combine categories depending on number of entries. Awards and Prizes First, Second, and Third place medals will be awarded for each category. A Best of Show award will be presented and an honorable mention made for first and second runners up. A separate Category 5 award will be presented to the brewer with the highest point total.
